Since
I can remember playing at my grandmothers fabric factory in my hometown, I
absolutely loved everything about clothing, fabrics, colors, prints...and the
magic of them affecting
everyone who tries on a piece of
any item. Truth is that I have considered more career fields, in the area of
arts, like theater or interior design, but my true calling has always been
fashion. So I followed my instincts and with the help of a friend who is
studying in Great Britain I applied to your university.
The
most exciting part in fashion is how you can make people relate to other
cultures and lifestyles like my personal favorite: the nomad/tribal spirit
adapted by more and more labels and people.
Of
course I have someone to look up to in this industry and that is Vivien
Westwood! Because of her courage to create such dynamic garments, every piece
is like an artwork. I put a big accent on the artistic part of this industry, as
I grew up surrounded by every art category.
I
think that at the moment the most directional high street fashion company would
have to be H&M. They succeed at doing an amazing job by perfectly combining
high street with high fashion.
My
fashion knowledge grew in time as I loved reading everything, both new
and old about those who revolutionized and became immortal. But my skills have
improved too as I drew a lot and I have a passion for hand made, especially
accessories.
By
exercising my drawing skills I am able to put on paper my concepts and ideas
and it is very rewarding to see my work finished. Unfortunately I am not so
good yet at sewing complex items...but I will get there!
One
of my best methods of gaining inspiration is reading. I read most belletristic
books, and my favorite ones are based on true stories, such as fantasy
ones(personal favorite is Peter Pan, because of it`s theory). In movies just
like books, I love the true story ones, because they are best at capturing the
human behavior.
Although,
I absolutely love researching in magazines, in my country the most directional
is Harper`s Bazaar, but from outside I am fascinated about Numero.
My
love for the nomad/tribal style was born when I visited Africa. It was full of
energetic prints and natural fabrics, they were so close to nature! Everything
was so alive.. It became a big part of my personal style, embracing boho
chic and African printings and fabrics gives me a special feeling, like I am
part of something.
One
of my best achievements was participating in several exhibitions, such as my
certificate work, that I am so proud of. I love visiting galleries, seeing
other artists visions and perspectives. It is great to know that galleries are
always full. Hopefully in few years I will have my own exhibitions, fashion
shows...and why not be in one of the fashion articles I am reading today while
others will read about me someday...as I do what I do best, what I was made
for: to create.
